Under A Grudging Sun is Alex’s two-year documentation of “Haiti Libere”—photographs of Haiti from the departure of “Baby Doc” Duvalier in 1986 to the accession of Manigat in 1988. It charts Haiti’s passage from the initial excitement and enthusiasm at the end of the Duvalier regime to the increasing chaos and ultimately violence of the subsequent two years.
