For five years, Alex Webb and Rebecca Norris Webb photographed their home borough of Brooklyn. Alex explored Brooklyn’s tremendous diversity—including Mexican Brooklyn, Caribbean Brooklyn, Chinese Brooklyn—echoing his past work photographing a variety of cultures around the world, except instead of traveling by plane, he simply took the subway. In contrast, Rebecca photographed “the green city within the city within the city”—Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Green-Wood Cemetery, and Prospect Park—which lie in the heart of the borough. She’s also written about her walks through these green spaces—and her own interior landscape. Together, her words and pictures create places where landscape and memory, history and reverie meet.
